SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2018 43 requirements of Euro 6 emission standard. Moreover, it was also developed to conform to Euro 7 emission standard expected to come into effect soon. ECOTORQ ENGINE SERIES We have developed next generation Ecotorq EU6 engine series - engineered completely in Turkey - in a way that would meet the Euro 6 emission standards and be ready for Euro 7 emission levels. As part of the technology license agreement we signed with JMC and with the support of Ford Otosan engineering, Ecotorq engines are used on “JMC Wielong” trucks which were designed for China, the largest truck market in the world. We continue our efforts to meet the requirements of CN6 emission regulation to be put into effect in China. Moreover, we entered into a partnership for Ecotorq engines to be used on Otokar’s buses. The achievement was recognised under the category of “Collaboration Developers” at the Most Successful Koç Employees Awards. LIGHTERMATERIALS Along with the developing technologies, next generation vehicles are expected to consume less fuel, and be lighter and more durable. Accordingly, we are trying to use materials that will lessen the load of vehicles; and thus, reduce GHG emissions. One of the most important steps in the transition to lighter materials process was using aluminium instead of steel. Since aluminium parts cannot be joined together through classical manufacturing methods, we installed a special manufacturing system at our facilities and used aluminium in the hood part of our Transit MCA model. Furthermore, we continued our studies to produce alternative internal body parts by using tea wastes as a first in the field in Turkey. The new parts produced as part of the project create advantages in terms of fuel consumption and GHG emissions due to their lighter weight. We also continue our studies to recycle coffee wastes with a similar approach. Electric Hybrid (PHEV) Ford Transit Custom The first commercial vehicle of Ford with an electric battery will be the electric hybrid (PHEV) Transit Custommodel that we will produce. The vehicle in which the electric battery will be charged with internal combustion engine contributes in the reduction of fuel consumption and carbon footprint. Vehicle underwent several tests in 2018 and we will start production and exportation in 2019. As part of the projects we planned with the city stakeholders and mutual benefit and cooperation, we continue our efforts to enable use of the vehicle in freight in new business models and in passenger transportation on routes that would contribute to the brand image of the city.
