36 OPEN INNOVATION As part of our open innovation strategy, we organise open innovation events and create opportunities for entrepreneurs to put forward their innovative ideas in smart mobility, Industry 4.0, connected vehicles and digitalisation which are material issues for us. OPENXC HACKATHON OpenXC Hackathon was organised last year at Sancaktepe R&D Centre with the participation of engineering students and IT professionals. Participants developed Google Android based applications and software by using vehicle data with the support of Ford Otosan engineers. Participants got the chance to get to know OpenXC platform, explored what can be done with the real vehicle data coming from the platform and saw what they can do by using their imaginations. With OpenXC which is a protocol that offers an open source software and hardware that enables developers to reach vehicle data participants developed codes under the supervision of mentors and got the chance to test their own application or software on Ford brand vehicles. At the end of 24-hour marathon, software developers presented their projects to the jury and teams that ranked the highest received their awards. The first step in our value chain starts with design, then continues with material and service procurement, after the production and sales services, our customers use our vehicles and in the end, the cycle is completed with recycling or disposal of the vehicle parts. Our approach at Ford includes improving all the steps within the chain with a holistic perspective.
