SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2018 35 We are putting Koç Innovation Program into operation for innovation management. In 2018, we implemented the technology innovation program with the theme of “Smart Production” which supports Ford Otosan’s main activity area. With the Smart Production Technology Innovation program, employees put forward their expertise and know-hows and presented their suggestions in Fikirhane for projects that would increase competitiveness and would take Ford Otosan further in the sector. 10 project teams that were prioritised are developing projects for Kocaeli and Inönü Factories under the guidance of Smart Production Technology Department. LASERSONIX Q IMPLEMENTATION IN PRESS LINES Sancaktepe R&D team developed an innovation that would support production process by identifying damage level of the parts that are exiting from the press by using sound waves. Lasersonix Q enabled management of error modes on the press lines independently from the operators and offered 100% parts control. The project eliminates processes dependent on the operator while also increasing environmental benefits and internal customer satisfaction due to the reduction in scraps and prevention of reproduction. QUALITY AND MAINTENANCE CONTROLSWITH WEARABLE TECHNOLOGIES One of the projects that we prioritised among 154 projects as part of the innovation and smart factory works is digital maintenance goggles project developed as part of wearable technologies. Smart goggles, developed with the cooperation of Yeniköy body production, quality assurance and IT teams, can be worn on the helmet which fulfils the ergonomic requirements and these visualize the health and safety measures that are needed to be taken during the maintenance as well as technical information and visual aids thanks to voice commands. When the aid of an expert outside of the factory is needed, the goggles which are worn by the operator who is intervening the malfunction may be used for visual and auditory telecommunication thanks to augmented reality technology and remote help feature and thus the maintenance operator may be directed as needed. So quality and maintenance controls may be executed with the help of experts. Our “BX726 Composite Multi-functional Spare Tire Housing” project won the Global Innovation Award in 2018 Ford Global VCSE Innovation Awards. And as a fully domestic project, our “Exhaust Emission Systems’ Modelling” work was honoured with the “Chief Award” in the branch of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) by leaving behind over 100 projects from 4 continents. We established Robotic Programming Training Centre as part of Ford Otosan Collaborative Robot implementation commissioned at Inönü Factory to increase competencies regarding robotics within the core of the factory.
