SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2018 73 KIVILCIMLAR As part of Kıvılcımlar (Sparks), as one of many projects we carry out to ensure gender equality, Ford Otosan volunteers mentor women students who study engineering. As a result of weekly meetings, mentors implemented another social change project in the name of Geleceğe Bakalım (Let’s Look Towards the Future) together with Kıvılcımlar. The project which targeted high school students with the purpose of raising awareness of coding, 3D printer and engineering fields of the future was carried out in collaboration with Koç University Social Women Entity. Thus, Kıvılcımlar learned about social change, project management and cooperation while also getting the chance to experience the necessary competencies required in professional life. WOMENWHO TRANSFORMTHE FUTURE 23 women engineer candidates from different universities got together with Ford Otosan employees in the event we organised under the title of March 7 th , Women Who Transform the Future, with the purpose of giving information to women engineering students who think about a career in automotive industry. STEMCELL DONATION In cooperation with Kızılay, we organised awareness training with a particular focus on raising the number of donors in order to eliminate a wrong perception about stem cell donation (bone marrow transplantation) which has an important place in 100% treatment of cancer type diseases and to help patients who do not have the option of medical treatment and whose only hope for life is finding a suitable donor. A total of 3,600 people participated in the training including all Ford Otosan campuses and Gölcük Factory suppliers and 1,148 people volunteered to be stem cell donors. JUNE 5 TH , WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY EVENT We organised events at our Inönü Factory with the titles of Evimizdeki Atıklar (Waste in Our House) and Su Ayak İzi (Water Footprint) as part of June 5 th , World Environment Day. With the goal of reducing plastic products used in the world, we determined the theme of 2018 World Environment Day as the fight against plastic corruption. Thanks to the event, all participants got the chance to learn about separate collection of wastes and recycling. APPLIED ENVIRONMENT EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS Our Inönü Factory employees volunteer and give applied environment courses at schools with the purpose of raising children’s awareness of the environment. Thus, we gave theoretical and applied courses on climate change, energy efficiency, wastes, etc. WE ATE ENOUGH, LET OUR ANIMAL FRIENDS EAT TOO! We feed street animals with bread leftovers. We used 2,000 kg of leftover bread in 2017 and 1,200 kg of leftover bread in 2018 from our Inönü Factory. We organised feeding activities in 2018 as part of the project at Balıkdamı Wildlife Protection Area, Çatacık Wildlife Protection Area and Musaözü Natural Park. We prevent foods be wasted while also supporting Zero Waste Project of the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning. In exchange of our training on materials, planning and logistic processes and systems, our suppliers contribute to our “Her Eğitim Bir Umut” (Every Education is a Beacon of Hope) social responsibility project with their donations. In 2018, 438 people from 170 dealers participated in these training. Thanks to the donations collected since 2015, we contributed in the education of 45 girls.
