SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2018 55 In parallel to our works to reduce water consumption, we reduced chemical consumption at Yeniköy Paint shop through optimisation of our production processes and achieved efficiency. Accordingly, we reduced solvent consumption per vehicle by 18%. In line with our responsibility towards the environment, we place great importance on decent management of wastes generated as a result of our operations. Hence, we not only have the goal to reduce the final waste amount but also to enable re-use of wastes within our operations as an input or recycle them. The cycles that we developed for this purpose increase both our environmental performance and economic savings. We continue our efforts to achieve the goal of reducing the waste amount that goes to landfill sites by 7% by 2021. When designing our products, we take into account the useful life of the product and its environmental impacts at the end of this life. Accordingly, we prefer to use steel from recyclable materials in manufacturing automobile bodies. We enable authorised organisations to collect and recycle tires, batteries, packaging waste and similar waste. We inform all Ford service and dealership network regarding the issue and keep our waste management functional throughout the company. We regularly review our processes to reduce the waste amount we generate and we have the goal to increase efficiency by integrating new technologies into our systems. We have achieved improvements in the processes with the purpose of increasing the useful life of the oils that are used at the production counters and that are frequently replaced as they get polluted. With the tool-and-die oil filtration project, we achieved efficiency in oil usage, thanks to the integration of the filtration units into the systems. Following commissioning of the filter system, 20 tons of oil which was changed in 1.5 to 2 years on the average can now be used for 5 to 10 years without the need of replacement. Thus, we prevented a significant amount of oil waste by using the same oil for years. Fan Shroud Production with Recycled Waste Plastics We developed a project involving collecting the waste plastic and using these in the combination of plastic and glass fibre called polypropylene which constitutes the rawmaterial of the fan shroud. The project which became a leading project in its field was put into practice after all the models and test processes were successfully completed. With the project, we enabled most of the plastic used in the production of shroud to be sourced with the waste plastic and a cyclical process was implemented by recycling waste and using it in production. As a result, 25% decrease in parts prices and TRY 95,000 material savings were achieved. We plan to use the project in the production of transit vehicles in the following period which are produced in higher volumes and we predict savings worth TRY 850,000 from this channel as well.
